Pale gray tile counter alcove
Glossy pale gray rectangular tile wraps the back and side walls of this counter alcove. Staggered horizontal joints and small shade changes give the enclosed space a consistent tiled backdrop.

The project in pictures
Horizontal courses around the alcove
Long rectangular tiles run horizontally along the back wall and turn onto both sides. The joints are staggered between courses, with narrow cuts at the inside corners. Reflections and pale shade changes make the individual tile faces visible.
Counter edges and wall fittings
The tile meets a pale counter above a wood-tone cabinet with open side cubbies. The installation photographs retain two circular wall mounting plates, open outlet areas, drilled counter holes and hanging ceiling wiring. The images record the tiled surfaces while those fittings remain unfinished.
Planning the tile boundaries
An alcove places several edges close together: the counter, two inside corners and the ceiling line. For a similar tile feature, plan the end cuts and fixture positions together with the horizontal courses so the layout reads consistently across all three walls.
