Blue-gray herringbone tub surround

Blue-gray rectangular tile wraps this tub alcove in a herringbone pattern, with diagonal joints meeting the straight lines of the window and bathtub.

The alcove before tiling

The first photo shows the bathtub beneath a horizontal window, with the surrounding wall surfaces exposed before the tile installation. The tub and window provide clear reference points for comparing the two stages from a similar viewpoint.

Herringbone around the window

Rectangular pieces interlock at right angles across the back and side walls. The pattern continues above and below the window, with cut pieces meeting the opening. Glossy surfaces reflect the window light across the blue-gray tile.

Walls and floor together

Larger rectangular floor tiles contrast with the smaller diagonal wall pattern. For a similar tub surround, consider the tile proportions, the direction of the herringbone and how the cuts will meet the window. These choices shape the pattern across all three walls.
